Gratitude + Grub

A true joy this season brings to my heart. For as long as I can remember, the winter holidays have been my very favorite. Gratitude swarms most around me, hearty meals and a warm coziness are abundant throughout. My grandpa was the heart of the season for me growing up, he was our “big santa”. I can’t get too into it just yet or my eyes will start to leak and I won’t be able to type-for another time friends. My parents taught us the true meaning of the season though, togetherness. Truthfully though, as I’ve gotten older each year, a little bit of that magic we feel as children, had become stagnant, especially the last 4 1/2 years while living on Oah’u where, try as we may just couldn’t make it feel like Christmas. Lack of lights and decoration as you cruise the neighborhood, or the ever predictable 80 + degree weather to greet you when you wake. Hot cocoa and thermal jammies didn’t seem all that appropriate. This year was a completely different story, all because of our little flower. Having a child of your own makes the simplest of things magical-the cheer comes back so effortlessly in ways that almost takes your breath away. Scratch that, they do take your breath away. Celebrating Willow’s first winter season was nothing short of a dream. The first wintery festivity was THANKSGIVING, yum! Willow was stoked at the idea of trying a solid for the first time, so at Drew’s family thanksgiving dinner we let her enjoy one of the greatest of foods on earth, drumroll please, mashed potatoes! They were a hit and she was a happy little girl. She even took the spoon in her tiny little hand and fed it to herself, correctly! What a sight! Enjoy some images from willow’s first non-bosom grub experience. Stay tuned for more hometown trip photos.
